When running as part of a training programme it is good to have a specific goal for each run. 🏃‍♂️ That may be running a certain pace, running with a smile on your face 😁or even trying to high five 🤚 at least one other runner. . It is also good to have a specific nutritional goal for each session. That could be making sure you having fuelled right in the lead up to the run, or nailing your nutrition/hydration during the run or recovering properly after. . All these will have an impact on your training and will help to maximise the adaptation you are getting out of each session. Raise your hand if you’ve ever picked up a product at the store because the label grabbed your attention ✋ We’ve all done it. There’s nothing wrong with being curious about a product due to the claims on the label. But your decision to buy it should NOT be made based on those claims. Companies are smart. They know how to use buzzwords and frame their nutrition to be as appealing as possible to the masses. It’s not hard to spin a product to sound more appealing. I mean, simply saying “all-natural” is enough to get people to buy your product these days. If I were to introduce you to a cookie that’s vegan, soy free, contains no trans fat, cholesterol, or sugar alcohols, AND is made with real cocoa, it sounds relatively healthy, doesn’t it? By ignoring every other aspect of the product, you can easily frame Oreos to sound like a healthy snack. How about a cereal that is gluten free, made with whole grains, contains 12 vitamins and minerals AND is only 110 calories with 6g of protein?! That’s Lucky Charms, my friends. Oh, and the protein content is only when combined with 1/2 cup skim milk, which labels will do allllll the time. While the FDA does regulate the claims you can make on packages, there are tons of loopholes and workarounds that allow you to spin a product pretty much however you want. That’s why it’s important to understand macronutrients and figure out what is important to YOU. At the end of the day, you should be able to pick a product up and make your own decisions. Who says turkey's just for Thanksgiving? Not me! I have it at least once a month. 🦃 Last night's dinner was roasted boneless, skinless turkey breasts & roasted rainbow carrot & beets. 🥕 The turkey was slathered with olive oil, fresh rosemary & thyme, and fresh cracked white pepper and cooked in a 375-degree oven for about 45 minutes. (Let sit for about 10 minutes before slicing.) The carrots & beets were tossed in olive oil & fresh chopped parsley & fresh cracked black pepper and cooked in the same 375-degree oven for 25-30 minutes. This.was.glorious 😋 🤤 I like to break my fast with a much smaller meal but we’re going to a midnight show of the Avengers, and I want to try to stay fasted, so going for 2 huge meals in my 4 hour window today. If I break tonight, no worries, I’ll be ready with some summer sausage or a Quest bar just in case. Anything to avoid the popcorn!

Yesterday was my first day of a 3 day Sebi-style fast. 100% alkaline, should be 100% liquid, and alkaline herbs to further support my body. I will be posting my actual journal entries on my blog at TakeFlightHealing.me, but thought I’d share my main thoughts on how I’m feeling. My glucose reading was 94, not bad considering Easter kicked my booty. My pH was 6.25, that explains why I feel bad. And my weight was 135. I had no issues until about 3:30, when my glycogen stores were exhausted and I got the belly grumbles. I had a little applesauce and took some hoodia to help me adjust. I had a lot of water, but also lime water, green juice, and cold pressed OJ. Being Day 1, I had two small mandarin oranges with hemp seeds, a small cup of applesauce (unsweetened), and 2 burro bananas. I only had water after 6pm. I’m not going to lie, the smell of dinner cooking was really hard. Unbelievably hard. So, I asked myself, “Do I want to heal my body or do I want the food?” This helped me to refocus. I did have a burst of energy around 4:00, but more fatigue than anything. I damaged my left kidney years ago on a high protein diet and it was aching for the last part of my day. I also had a headache off and on. Nothing excruciating, just a mild detox headache. Around 8:00, my belly did get a little “windy”. I want to share how detox really is. We often go into some detox paradigm thinking about the end result, which is good, but we can be shocked by how bad we can feel coming off of chemicals. This is normal and about all you can do is rest and drink water to flush it out. So, what are the benefits so far? *Digestion has gone to sleep *HGH (human growth hormone) dramatically increases *Healing process begins *Body switches from burning sugar to burning fat for fuel. (Eating fat prevents your body from burning its own, btw. It must exhaust the fat available in your food before burning fat stores!) *Autophagy begins (This is your seek, destroy, and clean up protocol in your body.) I’ve always feared a long fast because I’ve struggled with eating disorders. But, doing a fast that is meant to heal is the key. There are so many people that do 30, 60, or 90 day fasts. ⬇️⬇️

Recipe (serves 2-3) 1 small onion - finely chopped 3 cloves garlic - minced 1 thumb size piece of ginger, minced 1/4 head cauliflower, broken into florets 1/4 butternut squash, peeled and chopped into large chunks 1/2 tin chick peas 2 large tomatoes, finely chopped 1 thumb size piece of fresh turmeric or 1 teaspoon dried turmeric 1 teaspoon cumin seeds 1 teaspoon coriander powder 1 teaspoon cumin powder 1 teaspoon chilli powder (optional) 3 tablespoons creamed coconut 2 tablespoon red lentils 2 tablespoons tomato purée 1 cup water Handful chopped coriander .. 1. In a pan, heat some oil and sauté the cumin seeds for a minute. Add the onion, garlic, ginger, turmeric and sauté on a medium heat till soft and browning. 2. Add the tomato purée and cook for one further minute. Add a splash of water if sticking. Add the spices and chopped tomatoes and cook for 5 minutes. Add the squash, chick peas, cauliflower, coconut and water (add more water as needed) and cook (covered) on a medium heat till the veggies are soft or use the #instantpot (6 minutes high pressure, natural pressure release)
