I’ve been on the “life” or maintaining phase of my lifestyle for about a month now and over the last maybe week I’ve started to have some cravings for sweets. This is super scary to me, but I’ve been able to withhold pretty well as the cravings get worse. So, tonight I’m at my first work meeting and sometimes people questioning the way you eat all the time gets pretty frustrating, so I ate “clean” for dinner but as the desert came around, I think “man, I’m sick of hearing the comments, I’m just going to eat it and not have to listen to anyone.” HUGE mistake!!!! Sure, about half was amazing, but as i neared the end of my brownie sundae I felt so sick! I haven’t eaten like that in at least 3 months and now I know why. I have now spent the rest of the night feeling absolutely horrible, sick to my stomach, lethargic and a headache. It was so not worth it and now I want nothing to do with deserts, sugar or sweets of any kind. In a way I guess it’s a good thing this happened, it made me realize my body has adapted to my new lifestyle and the guilt and sick feeling is not worth it! Warm, cooked, easily digested food, such as rice and vegetable soup with some high quality almond oil, can help pacify stress. Using mildly warming digestive spices in your food, including coriander, cumin and cinnamon can also help. By warming your digestive tract and pumping up your digestive fire, you keep blood circulating throughout your brain and body, helping you to stay sharp and collected. Some time-honored herbs that support relaxation include lavender flower, kava root and valerian root. Another is Ashwaganda root, which is traditionally used by herbalists to help support stress tolerance.* Yoga and Ayurveda provide a treasure chest of practices to choose from that can help keep you on an even keel, and bring rejuvenation and calm to your life.
